In Nepalese culture and tradition the word "Panchakanya" signifies five virgin girls whose presence is considered auspicious while welcoming distinguished personalities and valued guests. In Hindu religion the word Panchakanya stands for good luck and symbolizes five Goddesses; namely Durga, Sarshwati, Laxmi, Radha and Annapurna. Sacred temple of Panchakanya is situated in far eastern Nepal. Family members of Panchakanya Group pay high regard, maintain and preserve the temple and name of the Group is derived from it.
During 1970s Panchakanya Group entered into business with trading in timber. Some saw mills were also in operation during those times to support timber trade. Basically, its maiden industrial venture started in 1971 with promotion of modern rice mill in Jhapa, eastern part of Nepal. Decision to establish agro-based industry earned goodwill in the market and trust, confidence amongst financial & credit institutions. Since then unending journey towards industrial ventures began. With the turn of the century Panchakanya Group is able to establish and manage more than ten industries under its umbrella.
Panchakanya Group has established itself as one of the leading industrial and trading houses in the country through association with and involvement in many commercial activities which include international trade, domestic supply, construction projects, and investment in financial institutions, hydropower project, schools, colleges, hospital and construction related projects. Today Panchakanya Group has earned high reputation as a business house in the country and the products with its brand name gain high premium in the market. The Group has been marching with the slogan "Always First, Always Ahead".
First phase of industrial growth was initiated, as explained above, with the start of rice mills as early as 1971. Second phase of industrialization started in 1981. Industries and trading companies managed by Panchakanya Group is as under:

In the second Phase of industrialization, Panchakanya Iron Industries (P) limited was established and started manufacturing of MS CRT steel bars at Kotihwa, Rupandehi District in Lumbini Zone. Thus, Panchakanya Group became pioneer manufacturer of CRT Reinforcement Steel Bars with increased bonding strength and minimum impact of natural disaster like earthquake in Nepal. This great achievement and experience in steel bars manufacturing provided the Group with vast scope to introduce latest technology in reinforcement steel bars. Eventually Panchakanya Steel Industries (P) Limited was established to replace and enhance the quality and production.
